Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is still officially on schedule for 26th May, but reliable Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier insists it’s been delayed. Apparently, staff have been told internally that the title will come out later this year, and the reason nothing’s been announced yet is because Rocksteady is still trying to decide on a new release date. There’s a possibility it could slip into 2024.
The delay is likely due to polish, but publisher Warner Bros will not have been able to ignore the disastrous feedback to the release’s recent State of Play re-reveal. Among a multitude of issues, the loudest criticisms were pointed at the title’s lacklustre gameplay loop – which seemed to centre on shooting purple orbs – and an unnecessary emphasis on gear score.
But according to Schreier, the delay won’t make a difference to these divisive elements. “One thing seems certain,” he wrote on Twitter. “The core game isn't changing.”
That’s unsurprising, of course, given Rocksteady has already spent the best part of a decade developing this game, and delayed it multiple times. Personally, we think the damage may already be done: the release’s Destiny-style influences look dated in 2023, and we’re not convinced there’s a massive market for these characters anyway. Hopefully we’re proven wrong, but we’re struggling to see enormous sales numbers here.

Purple orbs? Maybe I really should be keeping up with these SoP things.
@zupertramp Watch the gameplay demo, the characters just float around shooting purple blobs.
Still can’t fathom why they thought this approach would be a good idea, beyond dollar signs.
The game is DOA whether it releases now or later this year. In all honesty, Rocksteady should just release it ASAP, take the L, and start on something new.
It will be 19.99 on amazon ,2 weeks after release
Utterly disastrous for Rocksteady and WB.
I mean, even when die hard lovers of the Arkham games (such as me) shrug, you've got a problem.
@tallythwack Game Pass day one, if it's not scrapped or overhauled.
@ShadowofSparta I think it was a hotter IP than it is today and that's not all on Rocksteady.
@jFug this is my thinking too. I just want them to get it over with and start working on a new SP Batman game (or anything else really, as long as it’s SP). It must be so boring working on the same game for all these years - especially when it’s this game.
Is any of that divisive though? Maybe if you consider players one side and whoever thought it was a good idea the other...
I think Harley Quinn and the fact that you fight the justice league would have been enough to get people through the door if the gameplay looked actually great.
If it isn’t going to be changed, no delay is going to save this game.
Can they at least change the fact that everyone uses guns? At least give Captain Boomerang a Boomerang for crying out loud
I doubt anything can save a game that is this flawed at a fundamental level. It's basically their Anthem... a game that Bioware eventually gave up on.
They should announce it going free to start, then they can charge $30, $50 & $70 for “early access” like Disney did with it’s last two free to start games Dreamlight Valley and Speedstorm. 🤑
I'm a Rocksteady fanatic and love everything they have made which unfortunately ends with Arkham Knight. I have so little interest in this game that I don't think I would play it if I was offered $70 to play it.
Even reading articles about it bores me. I wish there wasn't a delay and instead was moved forward so we can at least put the game behind us, then we just wait for Rocksteady to make a proper follow up to the Arkham universe.
@rjejr That’s not a bad idea at all for this title. I mean, it’s pretty much DOA anyway. If modern video game criticism has taught us anything, it’s that, if a game is received poorly before release, the gaming community is ready to tear it apart. They may as well realize this is a likely dud if they don’t prove to people it’s worth playing with that kind of structure.
Well that is just unfortunate...
Well then to the live service graveyard you go then.
@tallythwack 9,99 hahaha
Well dont expect sell too rockst...
Better drop on garbage and try a new game feom zero.how about a giod game this time?! Probably is not the same devs that make the good batmans game.
The gameplay loop looks extremely boring, with one of the reasons being that all of the characters yield guns, even though that really shouldn't. They could have made King Shark a brute-type character that relies on melee attacks, Captain Boomerang have all kinds of well, boomerangs, and Deadshot being the firearm specialist. Harley Quinn could have been a technical expert, with all kinds of gadgets, as well as a bat. Instead, everyone has a gun and they may differ with their special skills, but that's about it.
Meanwhile poor Superman is over in the corner asking "Why can't I get an actual good game?" 😫
Poll: Are you happy with your PS Plus Essentials game for February 2024?
Its such a shame that everyone was just in awe of what could Rocksteady could bring to the table after the epic adventure we had with the dark gritty Batman trilogy.
10 years later and what we get is a simplified love service game about a group of villains no one truly cares about and not only that but on a fortnite style shoot em up. Where every playable character has there 1 special ability. But they all can fly it seems and they all have guns and shoot purple blobs ps2 style.
What an absolute let down.
Honestly couldn't care less if the gameplay is good.
This isn't a Rocksteady game. Ots a fun shoot we up with a battle pass with a suicide squad/ Justice league soon thrown on top.
Sounds like fortnire to me.
So disappointed.
@get2sammyb okay, I watched. Looks like a third person Doom Eternal to me which, is awful imo, but as much as everyone loved that game you'd think this maybe would get a better reception. So I'm kinda confused there. Unless it's just a matter of everyone expecting something a little more Arkham-ish.
@tselliot Think that's the only way I'll even waste the bandwidth on this one.
This sounds like a disaster. The purple orbs gameplay loop just sounds ridiculous. I’m presuming this is not some key canon element featured in the comics and it’s just something the developers came up with, because it’s all that they could apparently come up with?
Games are, for the most part, roleplay. What is the appeal of players taking on the role of these characters if they are not going to have any of the attributes that the comic characters are known for? If the player/s are simply gun-toting versions of the same character, but with a different skin, then what’s the point in utilising the license, if it’s not going to realise the full potential of the characters and their abilities?
The potential delay into 2024 sounds ominous, despite the insistence that there will not be a dramatic change in direction for the game. That’s highly likely, as there would have been too much invested at what is probably the latter stages of development. Any time from now up until release is going to be needed to try and turn this product into something gamers want - it appears that it’s not in that state right now.
My only interest in this game is following its progress and potential failure and seeing how this reflects on attitudes towards live service games.
As with the Abandoned saga, there are going to be mistakes made in this industry, but it’s interesting to watch and learn how these episodes are handled, by developers, publishers and gamers.
the ps5 gen is still in the dark ages .
The next Babylon’s Fall
This sounds like a dumpster fire of a game.
They are eager to lose more money. 🤣
It's Anthem but with a DC license. I can't believe Rocksteady spent more than half a decade working on this...
@zupertramp It's about live service as a whole. Gaming has reached the phase where the people who enjoy or are addicted to live service are settled in to live service games that have been around for awhile meanwhile everyone else are desperately wanting live service to stop.
The live service bubble seems to have burst and 2023 already is looking like it'll be a gigantic live service graveyard. Sony's probably going to have a rude awakening over the next few years if they continue with their PS Studios live service strategy revealed last year.
Looks like if Tencent have fingers in it...
Pretty graphics, stupid gameplay, lots of expensive purchases... when it dies, it dies. C'mon let's release same junk in new coat and here we go again...
typical Tencent strategy.
The only way to save this is to throw it out and start over. Won’t happen, but still.
I don't understand this game at all. Why use super heroes if you're just making a looter shooter?
@Grumblevolcano makes sense. I wasn't really paying attention to whether it was live service or not. Honestly a game this far out from release just isn't much of a priority. Definitely even less of one now.
Bargain bin sale for me, I refuse to spend more than $20 on it.
@mvhess i thought the same thing about gotham knights and it’s tacked-on crafting and inventory management and menu navigating that put me off of the game . what’s going on with the batman game verse right now , rocksteady & WB Montreal have the formula laid out in front of them , smh
WB really have little clue how to handle DC these days, between sacking Henry Cavill, to releasing a Batman game without Batman and worse gameplay than it's predecessors. Now jumping on the live service bandwagon that worked so well for The Avengers with this purple blob shooting garbage, it's such a shame how they handle these characters
